Pink Floyd’s classic Another Brick in the Wall includes five of the most provocative lines in rock and roll.
“We don’t need no education
Wе don’t need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers, lеave them kids alone
Hey! Teacher! Leave us kids alone!”
While the song is a commentary on institutional authoritarianism, it is also relevant to today’s AI revolution and its opportunity for unified thought control.
Paradoxically, “We don’t need no education” is a warning and a response to AI’s wide-ranging human impact.
This insight is cleverly reinforced when these lines are initially sung by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and David Gilmour. These lines represent a sinister, centralized, authoritarian point of view of AI.
When repeated by the student choir from Islington Green School, these lines take on a different meaning, representing the independence and individualism that AI might afford us.
Count me in the latter camp, where humans take control of their destinies by optimizing their capability to understand, use, and be relevant in the age of AI.
How to Stay Relevant in the Age of AI
Being relevant in the age of AI requires new knowledge, skills, and ways of thinking. Without these, your destiny may be to become just another brick in Pink Floyd’s proverbial wall.
The question is how?
To help each of you answer this question, we have brought together an expert panel in our January 24, 2025, Jam Session: We Don’t Need No (AI) Education.
These experts include:
