Welcoming Billy Bosworth as Dremio’s new CEO

I want to share some exciting news about Dremio. We launched our data lake engine two years ago, and the reception in the market has exceeded anything we could have imagined. In the last year alone, we’ve increased our annual recurring revenue (ARR) by over 3.5x and partnered with many of the world’s leading Internet and Global 2000 companies to power their cloud and hybrid data lakes. Apache Arrow, an open source project we co-created (and our internal in-memory technology), now exceeds 10 million downloads per month. In addition, we’ve expanded the company to over 100 employees, opened offices across the US, EMEA and India, and set up the infrastructure to double the company in the coming year.

And with all that, we’re just getting started!

Today I’m excited to announce that Billy Bosworth has accepted my offer to join us as our new CEO, and lead the company on the next phase of our journey. Billy joined our board in July 2019 as an executive board member, and after spending a few weekends together filling up whiteboards, I was convinced I wanted Billy to join the company. That was the beginning of one of our longest sales cycles here at Dremio, and I’m happy to put the transaction in the books!

More seriously, I’m so excited because our journey is just beginning and I cannot think of a better person than Billy to help us realize the monumental opportunity in front of us. Billy’s experience as a CEO and board member will be invaluable to us as we scale Dremio in the coming years. He served on the board of Tableau for nearly 5 years, through their acquisition by Salesforce, and was the CEO of DataStax for over eight years, taking the company from $1M to well over $100M in revenue. In addition, the opportunity to partner with Billy will enable me to focus more on my own passion as Chief Product Officer, where I will drive product strategy and execution, and work closely with our strategic partners.

Many people have helped us get to this point – especially my co-founder and CTO – Jacques Nadeau. I would like to thank each and every one of our employees, as well as our fantastic board members from Lightspeed, Redpoint, and Norwest.

More than anyone, I’d like to thank all our customers who have partnered with us to realize the value of their cloud data lake storage with Dremio’s data lake engine. I’m excited about what we’ve accomplished together, and I’m even more excited about what’s ahead!
